Summary:
Work involves a variety of technical tasks in support of library hardware and software, including:
providing support and troubleshooting computer related problems for staff and patrons, assisting with library acquisition cataloging materials in automated database.
The work requires that the employee have good knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of library technical support functions.
Ability to work under general supervision with latitude in exercising independent judgement and discretion subject to Library policies, procedures, and professional practices.
Supervision:
Does not have direct supervision of staff.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
HS Diploma/GED from an accredited education agency;andsix (6) months of relevant work experience with a demonstrated working knowledge of information technology principles, processes, systems, and standards, including operating systems, systems security, wireless networking, digital initiatives, and emerging web technologies.
Prior experience working in a library's technical services department is a plus.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:

1.
Prepares and receives book orders, processes materials to add/remove to library's collection and maintains related inventory records.
2.
Maintain various library services media platforms and website content by assisting with the development of marketing materials, social media content postings and newsletters.
This will involve overseeing social media content and elaborating on scheduled and current posts, in accordance with City and Library policies and procedures.
3.
Classifies, catalogues, processes, and organizes materials for circulation in all formats, including inputting large batch loads of vendor records while maintaining quality control within the inventory/catalog.
4.
Creates holding records and retrieves OCLC bibliographic records as necessary.
5.
Performs general database maintenance and clean-up of patron equipment within the computer lab.
6.
Provide support to the circulation desk with sorting, book, publications, and other items according to established procedures and return items to shelves, files, or other designated areas.
7.
Assist with imputing library patron information into automation system or other databases and monitors information entered by others.
8.
Assist librarians in the maintenance of collection of books, periodicals, magazines, newspapers and audiovisual and other materials.
9.
Explains and enforces library policies and procedures to the public.
10.
Performs duties as a circulation clerk as assigned.
11.
Assists with special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of public library operations', include searching methods, reader's advisory, and reference interviews.
Knowledge of computer hardware, basic software applications (e.
g.
, Microsoft office Suite) and other electronic resources including Internet and Database searching to the extent of instructing others.
Knowledge of MARC, OCLC and other online library systems.
Knowledge of basic library methods, techniques, and procedures.
Skill in customer service principles.
Skill in troubleshooting technical problems as it relates to computer hardware, software, copier, and other library equipment.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to review materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established formats and procedures.
Ability to maintain knowledge of, and engage in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends in emerging technologies, digital tools, and software solutions.

Interpersonal Relationships Have a high level of social contact working closely with general public.
Hours/Travel Works an assigned schedule Tuesday-Saturday based on library operation hours, and community program needs.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions Typically work indoors.
Work in an open space with other people.
Frequently required to sit, stand at computer while using hands, arms, and fingers to reach and input data in systems.
Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, climb, and work in confined spaces.

Exposure to dust, odors, and mechanical and electrical hazards.
May lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
Disaster Service Workers Clause Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers.
Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees' normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
